Registration 🔗

In order to gain access to PALMA-II, you have to complete the following steps:

  1. Register your research group for the usage of the HPC resources. Since the usage of HPC resources entails specific requirements not necessarily applying to other IT infrastructures (e.g. Embargo regulations), a new user group, specific for access to the HPC cluster will be created. This has to be done only once per research group. The application form can be found below. Please check the notes below about the rules of group definition and their naming ("About research groups").

  2. Self-subscribe for the HPC access group of your research group in the IT Portal (if you haven't done this before). You can recognize HPC access groups by the digit 7 as the second character.

🚨
  • Whenever you subscribe for a new group membership or these memberships are renewed, you have to wait one night for the changes to take effect and be picked up by our systems!
  1. Upload your SSH key in the IT Portal under "Passwords and PINS" → "Public SSH keys"

  2. Register for our mailing list and join the Mattermost HPC-Users channel to receive important information

  3. Read the how-to guides provided on this website.

  4. Login via SSH.

⚠️
About research groups
  1. A research group registered for access to PALMA should correspond to a working unit at the University. A working unit is intended to encompass a Principal Investigator and their collaborators. For this reason, groups encompassing entire institutes are discouraged.

  2. The naming of the group is not arbitrary, and has to follow the rules outlined here . Group names consist of up to eight characters, always start with a letter (specific for the department, e.g. p for physics), followed by a digit (7 in the case of HPC access groups), followed by a character string. A complete example could be p7euler.

  3. Research groups can only be created by project leaders, i.e. regular staff members.
